Classic television fanatics and motorcycle aficionados alike can rejoice in the news that the Triumph Trophy TR5 ridden by one Arthur Fonzarelli in "Happy Days" has been found lurking in a motorcycle shop. The bike effectively vanished after the sitcom wrapped up in 1984, leaving collectors to assume that the machine met an unpleasant end at a scrap yard. The Fonz's motorcycle was originally owned by stuntman Bud Elkins, who kept the Triumph after filming shut down. London (CNN) -- An Enigma machine which featured in a Hollywood movie about the codebreakers of World War II has smashed auction estimates and sold for a world record price.

The encoding device sparked a three-way bidding war when it went under the hammer at Christie's in London Thursday, selling for £133,250 ($208,137) -- more than double the upper estimate of £50,000.

Volatility in the stock market last month may have spurred a spike in activity in the art and collectibles market, according to reports by Bloomberg News and others. Though some cash-strapped collectors are looking to liquidate or downsize, others see art and collectibles as more stable commodities and are fleeing the turmoil of the stock market for assets they can hold in both hands. The increase in both sellers and buyers should be welcome news for the auction industry.

While media reports focus on high-end collectibles and record-setting prices, dealers and auctioneers are seeing prices for low end merchandise rise as well. Furniture from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s is popular with younger collectors looking to decorate on a budget as are action figures and movie posters, which have a certain nostalgia factor.
